Good question! Keeping sugar content in foods very low (choosing fresh blueberries or strawberries versus watermelon, for example), eating small amounts of complex carbohydrates (whole grain breads versus enriched white flour breads), and reportedly using some spices like cinnamon or red chile in home-cooked foods all help with better diabetes control or to delay its onset. Almost all vegetables are great to eat and don't tend to hurt one's health--with the exception of most potatoes, corn, and green peas (these tend to raise insulin and blood sugar levels). In fact, a colorful mix of veggies should be at the top of everyone's list, especially if you are pre-diabetic or already living with diabetes!
